TITLE: Program Manager, New England Ocean Science Education Collaborative (NEOSEC)
DEPT: Programs, Exhibits & Planning
REPORTS TO: Vice President, Programs, Exhibits & Planning
SCHEDULE: Part Time Regular; Four, 7.5 hour days for a total of 30 hours per week
The New England Ocean Science Education Collaborative (NEOSEC) is a collaboration of nonprofit, academic, government, and other institutions from across New England that share a commitment to advancing ocean literacy. NEOSEC's mission is to leverage and strengthen the region's extraordinary ocean science and educational assets to advance understanding of the vital connections between people and the ocean.
NEOSEC is led by a Governing Council and staffed by a Regional Office, hosted by the New England Aquarium. The Program Manager works directly with the NEOSEC Executive Committee to plan and implement Collaborative conference calls and meetings, prompt Committee meetings, and facilitate strategic planning and implementation, and other duties to the Program Manager as needed.
1. Staff and strengthen NEOSEC as a collaborative (approx. 2 days/wk)
a. Assist NEOSEC Executive Committee to schedule meetings, develop agendas, and secure venues for meetings.
b. Oversee logistics for NEOSEC events, including meetings, workshops, and the biennial Ocean Literacy Summit.
c. Suggest and facilitate partnerships among NEOSEC members, and identify strategic opportunities for development and growth of the collaborative.
d. Record and distribute minutes of all meetings of the Governing Council and its Executive Committee.
e. Manage budget for NEOSEC.
f. Maintain website (neosec.org) and blog/e-newsletter.
2. Manage joint NEOSEC programming (approx. 2 days/wk)
a. Identify and pursue funding for NEOSEC operations and initiatives.
b. Manage finances, reporting, and evaluation for funded programs.
c. Initiate and support dissemination of results to regional and national audiences, including through newsletter and journal articles, presentations, and the NEOSEC website and electronic newsletter.
3. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Training and Experience
Requires a Master's degree and 5 to 7 years' job-related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's or Ph.D. in marine-related field is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Proven capacity to work with and lead collaborations, networks, and coalitions.
• Exemplary communications skills, including grant writing.
• Program management experience, including budget management.
• Experience with event management and logistics; meeting facilitation is a plus.
• Facility with online communications tools, including WordPress.
• Demonstrated proficiency in one of the following areas: marine research, marine policy, and marine education.
