The Associate Director of Marketing is responsible for the creation and implementation of advertising and marketing strategies to promote revenue generation, including ticket sales to the Aquarium, Simons Theatre, and New England Aquarium Whale Watch; memberships; dining and gift shop sales; and our events business. The Associate Director is responsible for creating and overseeing partnerships with other Boston-area organizations, prominent aquariums, local and national media partners, as well as already established Aquarium partners, to strengthen the Aquarium's brand and grow attendance and revenue. He/she will work closely with the VP of Marketing and Communications, the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Creative Director, and key internal stakeholders, and will manage the Aquarium's relationship with our advertising firm.

New England Aquarium has implemented comprehensive safety protocols for employees and visitors to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure. In addition, we now require employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless a reasonable medical or religious accommodation is requested and approved.

SCHEDULE

This is a full-time regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule will be Monday-Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm with the option for a hybrid schedule, working some days on-site and some days remotely. Remote days are only available for residents of MA, NH, ME, and VT.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develops comprehensive, results-driven, and measurable promotional campaigns to increase visitation, film sales, memberships, event bookings, and memberships.
  2. Works closely with on-site vendor partners to maximize gift shop and dining sales.
  3. Directs and conducts market research, including visitor surveys; identifies issues and works across to organization to share concerns and find solutions.
  4. Tracks and analyzes Aquarium and local market data for trends in attendance, membership, demographics, and visitation, and utilizes findings to improve marketing strategies. Identifies tourism market trends, analyzes new audiences and proposes and implements opportunities for channel growth.
  5. Identifies and monitors competitors and researches market conditions or changes in the industry that may affect sales.
  6. In partnership with an outside advertising firm, develops advertising strategies and works closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Creative Director on execution.
  7. Develops and coordinates sales initiatives, promotional opportunities, and partnerships that support revenue. Manages all on-site and off-site promotions.
  8. Conceives of and executes digital marketing initiatives and strategies, such as email marketing, special offers, and social media contests.
  9. Represents the Aquarium at expos, fairs, and tradeshows.
  10. Manages the advertising budget and successfully allocates resources to accomplish organizational goals while demonstrating fiscal responsibility. Assists in negotiating, scheduling, and buying marketing collateral and sales materials.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Training and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or business, MBA preferred.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years experience in marketing focused on promotions, sales, and/or advertising.
  • Experience supporting revenue objectives and success in meeting revenue/attendance goals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience designing and implementing successful marketing and advertising campaigns.
  • Proven history of growing existing and building new audiences.
  • Skilled in using market research and data analysis to create effective data-driven strategies.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills.
  • Experienced manager with strong leadership, writing, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • A consensus-building team player, able to work with a diverse group of colleagues.
