The New England Aquarium is currently seeking enthusiastic and engaging individuals to join our Visitor Experience Team as Visitor Assistants. As a Visitor Assistant, you will be one of the first employees to greet and welcome visitors and help to ensure that they have a safe and memorable experience at the New England Aquarium. From the bustling penguin colony and the four-story Caribbean coral reef teeming with hundreds of tropical fish to the Simons Theatre offering the most cinematic way imaginable to see astounding creatures from our blue planet, we are committed to making sure each visitor is delighted by their Aquarium adventure.

New England Aquarium has implemented comprehensive safety protocols for employees and visitors to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure. In addition, the Aquarium requires all staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless a reasonable medical or religious accommodation is requested and approved.

SCHEDULE

This is a part-time temporary position covering our critical weekend shifts. We expect the positions to run through mid-February but may extend longer.

Available Schedules: Sunday & Monday or Thursday, Friday & Saturday - between the hours of 8:30am - 6:00pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Visitor Assistants consistently demonstrate high standards of customer service by interacting with our visitors and staff in a way that is professional, helpful, and engaging. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Welcoming and directing visitors on the plaza, reviewing safety protocols with visitors, managing lines and flow into the building, managing capacity and limiting crowding in exhibit spaces, assisting visitors with ticket scanning, and helping visitors navigate our one-way flow.
  • Responding calmly, courteously, safely, and professionally to visitor concerns and complaints and taking action to help resolve, referring to Supervisors as needed.
  • Cashiering and assisting visitors with ticket purchases.
  • Assisting in training, monitoring, and developing Interns in our department through coaching and leading by example.
  • Answering questions about the Aquarium, memberships, animals and exhibits, programs, and the surrounding area, including general tourist information.
  • Greeting groups to the Aquarium in an engaging and welcoming manner.
  • Performing other position-related duties to support the team and visitor needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum 6 months of job-related experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Customer service skills and an engaging customer service approach.
  • Ability to be successful in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working with the public.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries and complaints and communicate effectively.
  • Able to respond to changing or stressful situations.
  • Cashier experience desired.
