New England Aquarium's Volunteer and Internship Department is hiring a Live Blue™ Service Coordinator to engage applicants for volunteer positions and coordinate the Live Blue™ Service Initiative (LBSI) in an effort to further the institution's Conservation Learning strategy. The LBSI is an innovative volunteer program designed to connect adults throughout the Greater Boston area with the Aquarium and with local environmental issues. Volunteers within the Live Blue™ Service Corps volunteer within the main Aquarium building and/or participate in field service events such as beach cleanups, setting up/taking down fencing to protect piping plover nest sites, and removing invasive water chestnuts from the Charles River.

The Live Blue™ Service Coordinator recruits, screens, and engages applicants for volunteer positions, coordinates placement and on-boarding processes, and serves as a resource to Live Blue™ Service volunteers and interns by providing guidance and support. Reporting to the Manager of Volunteer Programs & Internships, this position contributes to the design and distribution of the department's ongoing internal and external communications, helps implement special programs and events and provides administrative support to the department. Position will also support the teen version of this program, the Live Blue™ Ambassadors.

This is a full-time regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule will be Tuesday - Saturday or Sunday - Thursday from 8:00am - 4:00pm EST with the option for a hybrid schedule, working some days on-site and some days remotely. Remote days are only available for residents of MA, RI, NH, ME, and VT.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Partners with internal and external partners, consultants, and evaluators to deliver upon requisites of an expansive episodic service program aimed at delivering field service projects throughout New England.
  • Works with manager to research, develop, and expand external partnerships with environmental organizations in order to develop service opportunities impacting aquatic environments throughout the New England region.
  • Coordinates the design and implementation of service events: works with the agency to develop logistics, service learning, appreciation components, and provide onsite supervision when necessary. Occasionally work is performed outdoors.
  • Acts as a communications liaison for all offsite service initiatives, this includes interacting with partner agency staff, developing project profiles, and disseminating information to Service Leaders.
  • Works with manager, Aquarium staff, and Service Leaders to develop service-learning curriculum related to all Live Blue™ service initiatives.
  • Assists Manger with the administration of the Live Blue™ ™ Service Leader program and all related logistics and communications including recruitment, screening of candidates, curriculum design and delivery, providing ongoing support, and aiding in project design and delivery.
  • Works with Manager to vet, recruit for, and implement Live Blue Service Corps Skills positions.
  • Works with manager to develop marketing materials, newsletters, mass emails, online and social media content relating to the Live Blue™ Service Initiative, Service Leader program, volunteer programs and internships that benefit programs throughout New England Aquarium
  • Conducts orientation for new Live Blue™ Service Corps volunteers and completes the on-boarding process.
  • Works with manager to research, develop, and expand partnerships with volunteer recruiting sources (colleges, community and business groups).
  • Supports the teen oriented Live Blue™ Ambassador program as needed.
  • Responds to a high volume of telephone and email inquiries from potential volunteers; assists in planning and implementing events and meetings and with volunteer and site supervisory support as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Training and Experience

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience.
  • Specific degree preferred: volunteer administration, event management, hospitality, museum studies, adult development, education, psychology, or sociology.
  • A valid drivers' license, clean driving record and willingness to drive a 15-passenger van required.
  • Experience screening, interviewing, and onboarding with proven results sourcing and attracting diverse talent required.
  • Experience managing a high volume of incoming and outgoing communication in a Human Resources or Customer Service setting required.
  • Experience tracking and maintaining high volumes of data in a database system required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated strength in designing online, social media and print communications for internal and external audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience with community building and civic engagement preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience writing in a business setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with a broad range of people in a customer service related capacity preferred.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience working with teens and adults from diverse racial/socioeconomic populations preferred.
  • Should be detail oriented and highly organized with administrative experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ideal candidate will be self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills and an ability to work independently as well as on a team.
  • Experience with MS Office, Mail Chimp and/or Salesforce preferred.
  • Should be committed to promoting and participating in diversity related efforts.
