The New England Aquarium seeks a dynamic and organized project manager to lead a campaign that conceptualizes a downtown waterfront that is resilient, inclusive, and accessible. The ideal candidate is a self-led individual that shares our passion for equity, climate resilience, and community building. The position is responsible for managing a team of contractors and consultants to build a grassroots/grasstops, diverse, citywide coalition to promote equity, accessibility, and resilience along Boston's Downtown Waterfront. In addition, the position is responsible for planning and overseeing all aspects of the initiative, including project planning, reporting, budgeting, and communications.

New England Aquarium has implemented comprehensive safety protocols for employees and visitors to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure. As a member of our team, you will be provided with the training and resources needed to ensure a safe and rewarding experience. In addition, the Aquarium requires all staff to be vaccinated and boosted (when eligible) against COVID-19 unless a reasonable medical or religious accommodation is requested and approved.

This is a full-time regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule is Monday through Friday but will require flexibility for special events and meetings.


  • Execute downtown waterfront for all strategy as written in the adopted project plan.
  • Outreach to community groups and stakeholders to help broaden the coalition and bring new voices to the effort.
  • Attend community meetings and activities as a representative of NEAq and in support of NEAq leadership participation in community meetings and activities.
  • Monitor, track and report weekly progress to ensure that quality work is produced on time by NEAq staff, contractors, and consultants.
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs; report and escalate to management as needed.
  • Track expenses to meet budget and make adjustments where necessary.
  • Buildout team to bring in qualified individuals to support the initiative.
  • Manage weekly team calls, prepare agenda, track and review/approve deliverables.
  • Convene quarterly planning discussions and other meetings and update plans as needed.
  • Monitor news and social media about the Aquarium, waterfront development in Boston and similar cities, climate resiliency, and equity conversations.
  • Maintain a shared calendar of events including ally meetings, regulatory deadlines, related development meetings, etc.
  • Compile and distribute a weekly report to the Aquarium and team members highlighting weekly accomplishments and forecasting priorities for the week ahead.
  • Coordinate internal NEAq support needed to carry out objectives in initiative plans.
  • Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverable.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Training and Experience

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, management/business, or related field.
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in campaign, marketing, communications, affinity groups or trade associations management or leadership, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Marketing and/or campaign skills required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Outstanding relationship and organizational skills required.
  • Excellent team and coalition-building skills.
  • Excellent communication skills - ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Must be able to work independently and demonstrate creativity, flexibility, and initiative.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively across multiple teams in a complex organization.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Must be available for evening and weekend events.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
